These are question many users interested in purchasing Yelp Review Pro have, or sometimes questions current users have for configuration that might not be perfectly obvious.
I’ve been using the free version, and just bought the Pro version. How to I upgrade now?
Yelp Widget Premium is a separate plugin from the free version.
After you purchase a WordImpress plugin, you’ll be sent an email with a link to download a ZIP file. Alternatively, you can also log into your account and go to your Purchase History and download the ZIP file. Save it somewhere on your local computer in a place that is easy for you to find for future reference.
Now that you have it downloaded, you’ll need to install it on your website. REMEMBER: Our Pro plugins are separate plugins from the Free ones. Make sure you delete the FREE version before you upload the new one. Your settings from the FREE version will NOT be lost.
To add a WordPress Plugin using the built-in plugin installer:
- Go to Plugins > Add New.
- Click on “Upload Plugin”
- Click “Choose File”
- A pop-up will appear allowing you to browse the files on your local computer. Go to the ZIP file that you previously downloaded, and choose that.
- Now the “Add Plugins” screen will show the “Install Now” button as active and ready. Click that now.
- You’ll see WordPress list the progress of the install, and then you’ll see a success message and two links. One will say “Activate Plugin”. Click that and you’re done!
I set the review filter to “5 Stars” but now no reviews are appearing.
Yelp doesn’t allow you to post just any reviews you want on your website. They only allow the top three reviews of their custom sort order called “Yelp Sort”. Here’s what they say about that in their API Documentation:
Can I change which reviews are returned for an API query?
In order to maintain a consistent Yelp experience across all platforms, the Yelp API uses a variation on Yelp Sort to determine and return a business’s top review excerpt. Yelp Sort order is determined by recency, user voting, and other review quality factors to help consumers make informed decisions. The Yelp API cannot be configured to return alternative review excerpts.
Basically, go to your business page and set the order to “Yelp Sort”. The top three reviews are the ONLY reviews that you’ll be able to list on your website — there’s nothing our plugin can do to change that. So if you set your filter to “5 Stars” and you don’t have any 5-star reviews in the top three results in the “Yelp Sort” order, then no reviews will appear.
I have the Pro version, but I still only see 1 review. What should I do?
By default, Yelp allows NEW API Keys to only show 1 review total. To get around that, we’ve built our API key into the plugin and negotiated with Yelp to allow our API to take a lot more daily calls than standard. Perhaps you mistakenly added your own API key into the “Backup API” setting. If so, here’s how to clear that out:
- Disable the Backup API setting
- Go to “Appearance > Widgets” and open your Yelp Widget, and in the “Advanced Options” section click on the “Clear Cache” button
- If you are using a shortcode, add
cache="none"into the shortcode. Once you have 3 reviews using the shortcode again, remove
cache="none"so your reviews get cached properly.
How can I get more than 3 reviews?
Unfortunately, that’s a limitation of the Yelp API. And truthfully, their current API only allows ONE review on your website. That’s why we negotiated a deal with Yelp to raise the limit on our own API key, and then baked our API key into the Pro plugin. That way ALL of our Pro users can benefit from getting 3 reviews on their site — but unfortunately not more.
I want my website visitors to leave a Yelp Review for my business on my website. How do I do that?
That is another limitation of the Yelp API. They do not allow reviews to come from a source other than their website.
